Stress is a primary cause of unhappiness.  It also contributes to health problems such as high blood pressure and weight gain.  Stress may be a fact of life, but it does not need to take over your life.  This next series of articles will take a look at some simple everyday strategies life coaches recommend to help promote harmony and reduce stress.

Take one day at a time

Worrying about what “might” happen often results in stress and anxiety.  Don’t rely on the strength you have today to resolve tomorrow’s problems. As we like to say in life coaching, take one day at a time.

Stop Being a Perfectionist

Any good life coach or psychologist will tell you that being a perfectionist depletes your energy and eventually diminishes your self-esteem. “Perfection” is actually a matter of perspective.  The standards we set for ourselves are often much higher than what others expect of us.  Perfectionists find it impossible to meet their own expectations.

Take time to breathe

Taking deep breaths during the day can ease anxiety and help you re-focus.  The Apple Watch’s “Breathe” app is a great life coach when it comes to this, offering encouraging exercises throughout day to help you stop and take a few deep breaths.
