What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a motivational, emotional experience designed to help you solve problems and deal with stressors.

In fact, anxiety is actually quite healthy.  If you didn’t have anxiety about getting into a car accident, you might not drive very safely.  If you didn’t worry about meeting deadlines at work, you might lose your job.  When it comes to healthy, manageable doses, anxiety can help keep us alert, focused, and productive.

However, many people struggle with anxiety overload.  Some of the most common signs include:

  • Frequent or intense worry
  • Difficulty controlling the worry
  • Worrying about too many things
  • Physical symptoms (racing heart, nausea, tension)
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Sleep issues
  • Irritability and anger
  • Dependence on drugs or alcohol to cope

If you or a loved one are struggling with anxiety, don’t wait.  Left untreated, anxiety can affect your productivity, damage your relationships, and deteriorate your health.  Get the help you deserve and seek professional help.

How can therapy help with anxiety?

Therapy for anxiety can help in three main ways.

Anxiety Therapy - Therapy for Anxiety

First, therapy offers a supportive, confidential space for you to talk openly about your fears and worries.  Anxiety always feels worse when you have to deal with it on your own.  Therapy gives you the chance to talk through your thoughts and feelings without worrying about passing your stress on to someone else.

Second, therapists can help you develop effective coping skills for managing anxiety and stress.  You can learn to use strategies such as mindfulness, thought stopping, and boundary-setting to help reduce the anxiety in your life.  As a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, I strive to equip you with psychological tools that you can use outside of sessions whenever anxiety shows up.

And third, therapy for anxiety isn’t just about anxiety – it’s about making you the best version of yourself.  You get the chance to make sense of your thoughts and feelings and understand yourself on a deeper level.  We work together as a team to help you move closer to the life you want to live.

Therapy for anxiety can also help you with:

  • Learning to relax and feel at ease
  • Regaining a sense of control
  • Developing increased confidence
  • Improving your quality of sleep
  • Building deeper connections with others
  • Enhancing productivity and focus
  • Finding your sense of direction in life

No matter how long you have struggled with anxiety, there is hope.  You can learn to overcome stress and worry – all you have to do is get started.

What does therapy for anxiety look like with Dr. Pazak?

My approach to therapy for anxiety is simple but effective.

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health issues in the United States, and it is also very treatable.  You and I work collaboratively to help you understand your anxiety, learn to manage worry and fear, and take actionable steps towards wellness.  The focus is entirely on you and helping you reach your goals; I am here to act as your expert guide.

I primarily practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety, which is the most evidence-based approach to treatment.  You can learn to change your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as you work to achieve your goals.  I also often provide “homework” assignments to do between sessions as a way to augment your progress.

Normally, we would meet in the safety and comfort of my office here in Laguna Niguel.  However, due to concerns related to COVID-19, sessions are held online for your safety and convenience at this time.

You deserve a space to feel supported and understood.  You deserve to feel calm and in control.  You deserve a chance to live your best life.

Together, we can make that happen.

Let’s work together!
